Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust is leading a pioneering clinical trial, PemOla, focused on pancreatic cancer. This trial is also serving as a pilot for the NIHR’s new Just in Time scheme, which enables hospitals to rapidly join a trial as soon as they identify eligible patients—eliminating the need to refer them to pre-established trial sites.

PemOla is exploring the use of immunotherapy as a precision medicine for pancreatic cancer. The Just in Time model, developed by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), has the potential to dramatically shorten trial setup times—from several months to just a few days. If successful, this approach could expand access to cutting-edge treatments for more patients, closer to home.

The trial is led by Dr Pippa Corrie, Consultant Medical Oncologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital and researcher at the University of Cambridge’s Department of Oncology.
